Are you thinking of getting on an app that is not owned by Mark Zuckerberg, where you can be more assured of your privacy? Well, if you hadn’t already started thinking about that, maybe the latest update from the WhatsApp team concerning privacy would make you change your mind.

There has been a very massive influx of people from WhatsApp since the message was released and Signal messenger seems to offer what WhatsApp suddenly claims they can no longer offer. This article will show you all you need to know about Signal and why you should probably join in the exodus too.

What is Signal Messenger

The Signal messenger is a messaging app just like WhatsApp that lets you text your phone contacts for free. You can send pictures, videos, documents, and links as with WhatsApp. Although the platform is still new, it has currently garnered a lot of attention in the past two days.

The Signal messenger got its first influx during the protests for George Floyd, who was murdered in cold blood by US police officers. Protesters decided to hop on Signal as they found out that their conversations were no longer safe on WhatsApp.

However, WhatsApp is one of the biggest messaging apps and most people weren’t on Signal so there weren’t so many people you could connect with on the app. This led most of the users to eventually go back to using WhatsApp.

Signal promises you 100% privacy, with the end to end encryption, which WhatsApp used to also promise but didn’t keep to their word. Since Mark Zuckerberg bought over the messaging company (WhatsApp), there have been several privacy breaches that most people didn’t notice.

Have you ever just had a conversation with your friend on WhatsApp and ended up seeing ads related to that conversation on your Facebook timeline? Well, that’s exactly one of the major reasons you should probably dust your sandals and join the exodus.

If your conversations cannot be kept private, what do you think your personal files and documents would be facing in no distant time? Imagine that you become a top shot in any industry; what happens to the information you once had on WhatsApp that now lies helplessly in the hands of Facebook and Instagram?

Signal vs. WhatsApp

The following paragraph will show you what you have to gain or lose when you choose one app over the other.

End-to-end encryption with no interference from any other app

End-to-end encryption with interference from  Facebook and Instagram.

It is owned by Mark Zuckerberg

How to get the Signal App

Whether you use an Android or an iPhone, the Signal messenger can work on your phone. For iPhone users, you can use the App Store to download the app. Android users can visit Google Play Store to install the app. Note that there are no fancy features on the app yet; however, with some more time and levels of upgrade, the improvements will come.

Are we to say that the WhatsApp team didn’t think this one through? Will this be the beginning of the end of WhatsApp messenger? Well, a few more weeks into the exodus from WhatsApp would provide us with some answers.

What do you think? Should the WhatsApp team change their strategy to get their users back? Or just hope that the users would be using both Signal and WhatsApp for the features each one has that the other doesn’t?
